xGPS-Video: Navigation mit Sprach-Befehlen

Wieder mal gilt es von ernstzunehmenden Fortschritten beim xGPS-Projekt (hier die letzte News zum Thema) zu berichten. Das vom Jailbreak abhängige Software-Projekt arbeitet nun schon eine ganze Zeit an seiner, auf Google Maps basierenden, Navigationslösung für das iPhone. Sich drehende Karten und eine Geschwindigkeitsanzeige inklusive. Die aktuelle xGPS-Software, so berichtet iphone-gps, kommt nun erstmals mit einer frisch implementierten Sprach-Navigation (Youtube-Link).

„A first beta version of voice navigation in English is now implemented and the speech engine does a pretty good job of pronouncing the directions (see the first video above). It will need some future tweaks to correctly pronounce abbreviations (like Rd, Blvd, Pkwy, N, E, S W, slashes, etc), but other than that it does a very good job. It would also be nice if the user could set the distance(s) at which voice directions are given; they are currently set at about 400m and 20m before the next turn.„

Zudem erlaubt die Beta Version 1.2 der xGPS-Applikation nun auch das gleichzeitige Abspielen von Musik und bringt einen, momentan noch von der Tageszeit abhängigen Nacht-Modus mit.
