Open-Source-Handy „Librem 5“: Spezifikationen stehen fest

Das in Kalifornien ansässige Technologie-Unternehmen Purism startete 2014 mit einem relativ simplen Mission in den Markt: Unter dem Arbeitstitel „Librem 15“ wollte man ein hochwertigen Linux-Laptop fertigen, der fast vollständig auf proprietäre Software verzichten sollte.

Der Zuspruch aus der Community und das positive Feedback sorgten dafür, dass Purism 2017 eine Crowdfunding-Kampagne für ein ähnlich gelagertes Smartphone startetet.

Das „Librem 5“ sollte ebenfalls auf freie Software setzen, sein Betriebssystem also nicht auf Android basieren, und eigentlich schon im Januar 2019 verfügbar sein.

Aufgrund mehrerer Hindernisse während der Fertigung wurde der Start des freien iPhone-Konkurrenten mehrfach verschoben, soll nun jedoch im 3. Quartal 2019 über die Bühne gehen. Kurz davor hat Purism jetzt die finalen Spezifikationen des „Librem 5“ vorgelegt.

Frühe Vorbesteller zahlen $649 für das Open-Source-Handy, ab August soll der Preis auf $699 klettern.
