Update: Fast vergessen. Im Core-Bundle des letzten Mac OS X System-Updates 10.5.3 tauchen im Resource-Ordner nun erstmals die Icons für iPhone und iPod touch auf. Normalerweise finden sich hier Geräte die über das Bonjour-Netzwerk angesprochen werden können. Dementsprechend liegt das Fazit quasi auf der Hand: iPhones.ru sagt den drahtlos-Sync voraus. /Update Ende

Crunchgear zeigt uns mit stolzgeschwellter Brust eine Hand voll „Exclusive leaked pics of the iPhone 2“ und freut sich über ein dünneres Gehäuse, mehrere Farben und den integrierten Video-Chat so sehr, dass gleich mal iChat für Windows prognostiziert wird.

Faaake, geht es nach dieser Flickr-Galerie und Engadget. Letztere konnten bereits einen ersten Blick auf den Gold-Master der kommenden Firmware bzw. das iPhone OS 2.0 werfen und versorgen uns mit den gleich folgenden Infos und dem Hinweis das das iPhone nun, dank integriertem quad-band GSM, A-GPS und tri-band UMTS / HSDPA ausreichend gewappnet, für alle Handy-Netze der Welt sei.

Hardware-Hinweise aus dem iPhone OS 2.0

• Infineon PMB6952 / S-GOLD3 six-band UMTS / HSDPA transceiver (as we’d heard)
• ARM 1176JZF-S – Main CPU (same as in 1st gen iPhone)
• Skyworks chips – UMTS / HSDPA tx 1900MHz, rx 2100MHz, 850MHz
• UMTS Power Saving option – on or off
• Hooks for Global Locate Library (GLL), software that handles A-GPS related commands for the host processor

Derweil bringt iPhoneAtlas einen Vodafone-Angestellten ins Spiel, welcher seinerseit bereits von einem ersten Hands-On mit dem neuen Gerät berichtet.

• The back is gloss black.
• The 4 models we have have a black skin wrapped around the back and glued into place. This is how they came from Apple.
• All are running v2.0 of the firmware.
• The bootloader hardware exploit is now fixed.

• The phone is running V 04.41.01 modem software.
• The phone is locked down like no phone has ever been. At this stage, you can’t jailbreak it and you can’t hardware unlock it.
• There is an added icon for contacts. This allows you to go straight to your contacts without having to hit the Phone icon first.
• The GPS works very well. It will attempt to obtain your position via WiFi first, cell tower second, then satellite third. The accuracy appears to be within 3 meters.
• We were getting a data transfer of 140kbps on average. It droped down to 70 kbps when we went inside.
• Apart from that, the “feel” is much the same. The phone is smaller (I would say 20 percent) and it is noticable when you pick the unit up.
